Periodic Driver CPC Training

The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) is a new requirement for professional drivers; this has been introduced across the European Union (EU) to maintain high driving standards and to improve road safety. This was introduced

  • For Bus or Coach Drivers, this came into effect on the 10th September 2008.
  • For Lorry Drivers, this came into effect on the 10th September 2009.

Although most LGV drivers come under the new Driver CPC Regulations,

there are exemptions.

Maintaining your Driver CPC Qualification

All drivers that have obtained the Driver CPC through gaining an Initial Driver CPC Qualification or through acquiring "Grandfather rights" need to carry out periodic training in order to continue driving professionally.

This is done by carrying out 35 hours training in each 5 years. The Periodic Training involves attending courses which will then be registered on a National Driver CPC Database. There is NOT a pass or fail situation: Each five year period will begin from the expiry of the current Driver CPC Qualification. For 'old' drivers who held their licence before the Driver CPC came into effect, their Driver CPC Qualification WILL expire on:

9th September 2013 for bus and coach and 9th September 2014 for lorry drivers respectively

We recommends that you carry out 7 hours (1 day) training each year to get the full benefit of the Driver CPC training. That means by now, you should have completed and BANK at least 35 hours training for bus or coach drivers and 28 hours training for lorry drivers before it expires

Once you have completed the full 35 hours within a particular 5 year period, you will be sent a new Driver Qualification Card (DQC) 2 months before your current DQC Expires

Only J.A.U.P.T approved courses count towards the Periodic Driver CPC.

SaNaa Global carries out approved Driver CPC training courses across the UK.
